Remembrance Service

Our service of Remembrance and Dedication was held on the 7th November in St Faith’s church. It was a very poignant occasion for the school community.    We would like to give a very special thanks to Mr Tom Scrivens from The Royal British Legion who was in attendance and to The Reverend Jeremy Goulston for leading the service.  As a mark of respect, pupils were invited to wear their Brownies, Rainbows, Guides, Beavers, Scouts or Sea Cadets uniform. The school sang three moving songs, each class presented a wreath and poppies were laid as a mark of respect: Thank you also for supporting the Poppy Appeal which raised £214.22. Every poppy shows that we care about the lives of our Armed Forces Community. The Royal British Legion wish to send their heartful thanks for your very generous donations.

Year 6 Bikeability

Over two days, a group of our Year 6 pupils took part in Bikeability Level 1 and 2 training. The children completed a challenging ride from Shellingford to Stanford in the Vale, where they practised a range of on-road cycling skills and safety drills they had practiced on the playground beforehand. They learned how to signal, navigate junctions, and ride confidently in real traffic conditions. All the pupils showed fantastic focus, teamwork, and enthusiasm throughout the sessions.

Year 5 Residential to Youlbury Scout Camp

Our Year 5 pupils visited the Youlbury Scout site this week where they enjoyed a 3-day residential with Mrs Sucksmith, Mrs Carter and Miss Terrell. During their time away they all participated in numerous outdoor and adventurous activities, including the climbing wall, Jacob's Ladder, the 3G swing and the Leap of Faith. They also tried their hand at archery and enjoyed games of aeroball, laser tag and some good old-fashioned songs around a campfire. The children all impressed their teachers and the Youlbury staff with their teamwork, resilience and excellent behaviour. It was a pleasure to see each child challenging themselves and we were all proud of just how much they grew in confidence throughout their stay.

Warwick Castle

‘Class 3 went on an exciting trip to Warwick Castle.  We saw an amazing Trebuchet launch and a bowman fired long arrows at a target.  We climbed the tallest tower in Warwick Castle and it was very, very high.’

Harvest Service

We had the most enjoyable Harvest service and it was so lovely to see so many parents and families attend the celebration.  The church was full and the children sang their hearts out!  We would like to extend our appreciation and thanks to The Reverend Jeremy Goulston who led our service.  Thank you also for your generous donations in support of Transforming Lives for Good which raised £148.00.

Yenworthy Lodge Residential, Exmoor

What a wonderful week our pupils have had this year at their residential at Yenworthy Lodge, an outdoor activity centre set in six acres of woodland within the Exmoor National Park. They have embodied our school values, demonstrating perseverance, resilience, teamwork, curiosity and friendship.  During the week they have enjoyed surfing, rock pooling, beach art, coasteering and lots of challenges on site including the climbing wall and zipline.  We have been so impressed with their behaviour, manners and good humour as well as their willingness to work so well together and with the partner-school.  Mrs Sucksmith and Mrs Carter

Shellingford School Family Learning Culture

At our school we also talk about the ‘Shellingford School Family Learning Culture’ and refer to this in our lessons.  We expect all our pupils to have a ‘Growth Mindset’ and for children to embrace challenge, to persevere and learn from mistakes, show curiosity, enjoy learning together and have aspirations.  We would really appreciate it if you could help encourage your child/ren to ‘not give up’ when things go wrong, and to encourage resilience when issues arise with their learning or friendship difficulties. Our poster is up around the school as a visual prompt for the children.  It is also on the Curriculum page of our school website and may be helpful for parents to refer to when supporting your child/ren at home.

Roots and Foundation in Love

As a church school our Christian vision is at the heart of our provision and steers all we do with our pupils and with one another.  We talk about having ‘roots and foundation in love’ (Ephesians 3:17) to help inspire and guide our hearts and minds.  In our Collective Worship and as part of daily activities and interactions we remind ourselves that the best roots we can have can be provided by our faith, our family and friends, and demonstrated by the way we show love for other people. We hope that this will become the foundation of our lives to enable us to grow into good people.

Mystery at Magpie Manor

Our Summer Production was once again a block buster!  Congratulations to the children for two fantastic performances and to Mrs Sucksmith for directing the production.  £241.26 was raised for the charity ‘SeeSaw’ who provide support for children, young people and their families in Oxfordshire when they have been bereaved or when someone close to them is terminally ill.
